NBA 2K taught me the struggles of being an NBA player. It sucks being a basketball player when you can only afford a haircut and a t shirt with your weekly pay. Sometimes the crooked owners lie to you saying you earned 1000 VC but, your bank account only shows 550 VC. I can't imagine living the life of a NBA player.

I'm sounding old and pessimistic but I miss 2k11 so much and what should have been.
2k became too greedy when they realized EA wasn't even coming close, even when they finally released a game again. The market is and was theirs.
NBA 2k used to be a rather 'pure' game, now it's mostly aimed for a really young ( teenage ) generation and it became too gimmicky which I'm not a fan of. I still think it's possible to keep everyone happy but they rather sell VC and make a lot of money through this.

If that's where they get the bulk of income from, sure. But keep in mind that these players have a ton of capital which is probably sitting with a professional asset manager. So when they're pulling in a few million in additional income from investments, they only get taxed at capital gains rates. It's not such a raw deal in the end because they're so young, and those investments will pretty rapidly outpace the salary income anyway.

I used to be a big NFL fan and i would much rather see mediocre players sign for 20 millions than have rich owners short changing their players who take all the risks ... especially considering that most owners have no shame in begging for tax credits whenever they can.

Job security ( and contract structure ) in football is so poor for everyone aside from a handful of players; a vast majority of players are one bad juke or low tackle away from $0 in future income.
