2017 年維密秀確定將於中國上海舉行，日前超模吉吉 · 哈迪德（Gigi Hadid）則因 " 涉嫌辱華 " 引發網友不滿，網友紛紛舉報拒絕其參加上海大秀。9 月 1 日晚間，吉吉在微博道歉，並稱 " 我對於中國人民懷有極大的尊重與愛 "。
此前，吉吉因為在與朋友聚會中學 " 瞇瞇眼 "，被網友怒批 " 種族歧視 "，並被挖出眾多此前涉嫌種族歧視的行為。其男友澤恩 - 馬利克（Zayn Malik）隨後發文維護女友，也被指責 " 無知 "。不少中國網友紛紛舉報拒絕其參加上海大秀。
9 月 1 日晚間，吉吉在微博道歉，表示 " 絕非想要冒犯任何人 "、" 真摯地向那些因我的言行而受到傷害或者失望的人道歉 "，並且 " 對於中國人民懷有極大的尊重與愛 "，" 我希望我能跟你們見面，讓你們瞭解一個真實的我。"
不過，這一道歉聲明並沒有發佈在她的 Instagram 和 Twitter 上。

傷害別人令我感到心疼，我想要讓你們知道我絕非想要冒犯任何人。我真摯地向那些因我的言行而受到傷害或者失望的人道歉。我對於中國人民懷有極大的尊重與愛，我珍惜過往曾經到訪中國的點點滴滴。 我已學到我應謹言慎行，避免可能引起誤會的行為發生。我希望你們能夠接受我真摯的道歉。我希望我能跟你們見面，讓你們瞭解一個真實的我。我絕不容忍傷害別人的行為，我想要讓所有人都知道，無論任何文化與背景，我都絕對歡迎、尊重並熱愛著你們。
It hurts me to hurt anyone， and I want you all to know that it was never my intent to offend anyone through my actions and I sincerely apologize to those who were hurt or felt let down by me。 I have the utmost respect and love for the people of China and cherish the incredible memories I have made while visiting in the past。 I have learned to be very careful of how my actions can come off or be portrayed， and I ’ m hopeful you ’ ll accept my apology。 I hope to meet many of you and let you get to know me for me。 I do not condone hurtful behavior and want people and fans of all backgrounds to know they are welcomed， loved， and respected around me and by me。
